I love how acupuncture and associated therapies can profoundly change peoples lives, for the better.
As a keen cyclist (in my younger years) I was involved in several run-ins with cars; my knees and back in particular suffered a lot of trauma.
One of the core ideas in Chinese Medicine is the idea of treating the body as a whole, not just the one, obvious spot where something hurts. Whether I’m treating with acupuncture or manual therapies arthritis or anxiety - I make sure that I’m approaching every treatment with comprehensive care.
One of the real joys I get is helping people who have tried other treatments without success find relief from pain and disease.
I routinely treat patients with:
-
Nerve pain: CRPS, fibromyalgia, trigeminal neuralgia, plantar fasciitis
-
Arthritis: osteo, rheumatoid & psoriatic
-
Joint health: frozen shoulder, dislocation, tennis & golfers elbow, carpal tunnel, sprains
-
Neck & head: whiplash & concussion recovery, headaches & migraine, grinding or clenching teeth
-
Low back: back pain, degenerative or herniated discs
-
Sports injury: Strains, ligament & tendon injury, post-surgical recovery
I also work with other conditions including:
-
stress, anxiety & depression
-
digestive, respiratory & reproductive health
Education
VIU - 2 years of four year Nursing program
ICTCM Vancouver - 4 year Traditional Chinese Medicine program including 10 months in China
Continuing education in different styles of traditional acupuncture including Korean, Japanese and several unique Chinese family styles. I’ve also studied different modern approaches to needling such as IMS/Dry needling therapy and neuropuncture.
Until recently I’d also been working on advanced training with point injection therapy. I’m no longer providing these services, but it’s my hope that I will again one day.
Work
I’ve been in practice since 2004
In 2008 I set up programs to provide acupuncture at several VIHA / Island Health facilities focusing on mental & emotional health as well as addiction & withdrawal management. These programs still operate to this day providing free treatment for people who need it.
In 2009 I opened one of the first community acupuncture clinics in Canada with the goal of providing affordable care to everyone.
